PROPERTY CARETAKERS NEEDED. This is a unique opportunity available for the right person or couple. Spend your winters in the Arizona valley maintaining the 2.5 acre property in Cave Creek and your summers in the cooler mountains of Williams, Arizona looking after the 10 acre mountain property. We currently have five horses in residence but it can be as low as two and up to six. Basic duties are to care and feed the horses and take care of the horse facilities, being onsite when the owners are away, basic property caretaking and maintenance, procuring and maintaining hay, feed and horse/barn related supplies, caretaking of the owner’s five dogs when they are out of town, cleaning and maintaining the owner’s front and backyards, and helping with special projects. MUST be comfortable and proficient around horses and have knowledge of horse care, feeding, and have the ability to spot a horse in distress, lameness, illness and light doctoring. Riding and training experience is highly appreciated but not necessary. Must be able to use farm machinery and have competency in maintaining them. The vast majority of large equipment needed (tractor, riding mower, ATV, dump trailer, etc.) provided. If you have your own smaller tools please bring them. Good skills to have are knowledge of pasture maintenance, welding, landscape/groundskeeping, composting, plumbing, sprinkler/bubbler repair, knowledge of fixing large machinery, handyman/fix-it type work, light plumbing, light electrical work, fixing fencing, knowledge of equine hoof care, basic doctoring of equine, equine nutrition, knowledge of training/tuning up/exercising equine. We are offering a fully furnished, covered, and hooked up RV 30-37 ft’, queen bed in Cave Creek and a one bedroom, fully furnished apartment in Williams. We will also provide a ranch truck for running ranch errands and for commuting between properties, cable, internet, utilities, washer and dryer at both properties, private gated entrance and negotiable salary dependent upon experience, skill set and performance. One to two personal horses are negotiable. We also welcome a well behaved dog or two but expect them to have manners around the horses or be kept on a leash. The Cave Creek location is in town but feels like it isn’t. Located conveniently close to stores, dining, entertainment and amenities it has a secluded feeling with trials to ride off property. It is also close to West World, rodeo arenas and other equestrian event spaces. In Williams we back right to a mountain and days of riding trails, fishing, hunting, and hiking. We are a bit more remote in Williams, 20 minutes to the closest store or town, and 45 minutes to Flagstaff. We provide an ATV for your trail use as well as a gator for the property. Cave Creek boasts an auto shop with a lift and Williams has a woodworking shop that the right candidate can take advantage of. There is some storage available. We ask for no drama, no drugs, no alcoholics, sorry-no children, and no slackers. If you are looking for a 12 hour day, 7 day a week job of hard work in and out of the saddle working cows and killing coyotes then this is not the job for you. If you have a good work ethic, are self-motivated, can prioritize and self-schedule as well as take direction then it’s not terribly hard work. This is a private contractor position, not an employee.
